January 10th, 2014, Hawthorne, CA – Driver Tyler McQuarrie piloted the Infinity ECU-tuned, Platte Forme AG BMW E46 to a new Buttonwillow Limited RWD record at the Super Lap Battle-Global Time Attack season finale. McQuarrie bested the time set by the M3 in 2012 by 2.717 seconds with a 1:48.038 lap thanks to improved tuning ability from the Infinity ECU and improved breathing thanks to a larger turbo from Garrett by Honeywell. This time was also the fastest of the day.

McQuarrie actually bested the previous year’s record in his first attempt with a 1:48.472, and it looked like that would be his only shot after a mechanical issue forced the John Player Special gold-wrapped M3 to be towed off the track and the car was towed over raised curbing which ripped the front splitter and bumper cover from the vehicle. The team spent the third time session making repairs and had it ready for the fourth session, when McQuarrie bettered the M3’s time.

"One of the biggest hurdles with the S54 engine is the DME, and the AEM Infinity was the key to unlocking the capabilities of the S54,” stated Toan Nguyen of Platte Forme AG. “We're very happy with the performance of AEM Infinity EMS. It has allowed us to have full control of the S54 engine with our new Garrett turbocharged setup. It's a great unit with every option you can imagine, we frequently use the data logging which allows us to further optimize the tune at the track for that extra tenth of the second we're looking for. Thank You AEM for the support! We're looking forward to breaking more records in 2014!!"

The Infinity EMS delivers high-end engine control for the racing masses at a fraction of the cost. Built around a latest-generation 200MHz automotive processor, the Infinity is capable of processing 400 MIPS (millions of instructions per second). For a limited time, all Infinity systems come fully enabled without the need for feature add-on purchases. Combined with AEM’s industry leading after-purchase support system, including free technical support, the Infinity is the ultimate engine control solution for both professional race teams and weekend track cars.
